Long Beach in California, not to be confused with its namesake in New York is an ocean front city located only around 20 miles from Los Angeles, so the spectacular offshore new year's eve fireworks display here each year attracts huge crowds, with many thousands heading out from the greater LA area to watch the show.
Long Beach on new year's eve is a great place to be, as the relatively clement weather generally makes for a pleasant outdoor experience, with local beaches and harbour areas offering plenty of additional diversions as you await the evening celebrations.

The big new year event in Long Beach actually takes place offshore, with the Queen Mary new year's eve fireworks party. This is a 21+ party and includes a wide range of entertainment, including live music, DJs, dancers, and of course the spectacular fireworks at midnight, of which you'll have the best view possible from the deck of the great liner.
Entertainment on board the Queen Mary this year will be provided by Las Vegas style showgirls, DJ Carisma, DJ Cutt, Daniel Bonte and the Bona Fide. Tickets are available for general admission or with VIP options - secure yours online here.
The Queen Mary isn't the only option for ocean based fireworks, there are many other yachts that also take to the water on new year's eve offering a new year fireworks cruise as a great way to mark the occasion. One popular offering is by Harbor Breeze cruises.
Long Beach also hosts a massive new year's eve celebration of it's own - starting with a family friendly celebration at the Downtown waterfront amphitheatre with a 9pm fireworks show from the Rainbow Harbor lighthouse peninsula and followed by a party on Pine Avenue, featuring live music at the Pine Avenue New Year's Eve Block Party.
The earlier event, which starts at 5pm and runs through until 10pm is free.
Latest: The Party on Pine has unfortunately been cancelled this year, with organisers claiming issues with the event's financial viability. Please note that the earlier, family friendly event will still be taking place as usual.
If you're looking for family friendly events there is also an earlier fireworks display at nearby Marina del Rey.
There may well be live TV coverage of the new year fireworks on some of the local networks, many of which alos now have live streaming online options - rest assured we'll post any links we find right here.
