It's safe to say that it's always a bit chilly in this neck of the woods, so you're going to want to wrap up warm this New Years Eve if you find yourself in the glorious Scottish town of Oban! Get the blood pumping by attending a Ceilidh and dance the night away to the amazing melodies of traditional Scottish music..

In the lead up to New Year you can also find some other great events that you will want to add to your calendar, including the Winter Festival, an annual 10 day event held in November that includes a Market, Whiskey Festival, Roller Disco, Tartan Dash, Reindeer Parade, Haggis Hurling, Christmas Lights and fireworks! Oban is a seaside town so walks along the Corran promenade then popping into a local cafe to warm up with some hot chocolate or the pub for some mulled wine is always a great option (which sounds like utter bliss to me!)

If you happen to be a budding photographer and are looking form some breathtaking scenery shots, then you will not be disappointed here! Head up to McCaig's Tower (a replica of the Colosseum in Rome) or Pulpit Hill for some great atmospheric shots with incredible views. Or, for the Wildlife enthusiasts, winter means you might just get a peek at a red deer on the stunning landscapes of the highlands. Just get out there and explore!

Just a short drive away you will find castles, lochs, rolling hills and amazing scenery, it's the perfect place to be to experience some traditional Scottish hospitality, oh and don't forget some Whiskey Tours!

New Years Eve Fireworks

Not sure if you know this, but us Scots love Hogmanay and in Oban this is definitely no exception! The streets will be bustling with people out celebrating and you won't be able to miss the sounds of the foghorn fanfare from the passing ferries and boats out as sea as the new year comes along.

The fireworks are on a bi-annual basis, so you are in luck this year! Set off from McCaig's Tower, you can get a good view from pretty much anywhere on the bay!

Hogmanay Parties & Events

There are lots of Hogmanay Parties in Oban from the bars to the hotels, one thing to note is that some of the bars might be operating a "lock in" (such fun!) so double check as may need to get yourselves in before midnight. Another great thing about Scotland is that the local bars are licensed until 3am and later on New Years Eve, so you can party right into the wee hours!

One of the best places to see in the New Year is at The View on George Street, where they hold an annual traditional Ceilidh and disco. This is highly sought after so you always need to book as soon as you can.

Or head to The Lorne on Stevenson Street who usually have some live music and festivities - again the place will get busy but a great atmosphere to celebrate Hogmanay.
