Fireworks, classical music and street parties greet the new year in Nice for NYE 2023-2024

Wouldn't it be nice to be in Nice for New Year, many people seem to think so and flock here for the festive period. Located on the French Riviera it attracts millions of people throughout the year as a popular holiday destination.

Although many come for the summer sunshine, winter is just as beautiful in this lovely Mediterranean city as the streets are all lit up, especially places like Place Massena and Place Garibaldi which have stunning light displays during December.

If you are lucky enough to be in Nice on a Sunday around 3.30pm then you can enjoy one of the free afternoon winter orchestra concerts usually held at the church on the Port or if not there at Notre Dame.

Take in some art at Musee d'art moderne et d'art contemporain ot Musee Matisse or hit the shops on Rue de France before exploring the old town and it's wonderful array of winding streets and markets.

If you are a fan of architecture (like I am!) then Nice will give you plenty to feast your eyes upon and have you snapping away on your camera

Fireworks & Events

Throughout the day on New Years Eve there is lots of family fun around Nice, with story telling and children's shows.

When it come to the evening of New Years Eve, you should grab your bottle of champers and head on to Promenade des Anglais and the harbour area where you can watch some of the fireworks from the boats out at sea. This is generally where most people congregate to see in the New Year.

Many bars, restaurants and hotels have special New Years Eve events. It is always recommended to double check with the venue to make sure you get your ticket or make a reservations.

New Years Day Concerts

Don't miss the FREE New Years Day concerts (you do need to get a ticket though from the Nice Opera, and be aware that they go quickly) where you can delight in a performance from the Nice Philharmonic. This will be held on 1 January 2024, more details here.
