Possibly the iconic glamorous US location with all its associated star qualities and celebrity status, Hollywood in Los Angeles remains one of the top places to see and be seen on one of the biggest party nights of the year. New Years Eve sees the crowds head down to Hollywood Boulevard to try and catch a glimpse of some celebrities, or if you are one of said celebrities to rub shoulders with your fellow A-Listers at some of the coolest parties in town.
We originally included this page after selecting Hollywood as the top spot in Los Angeles, but have later learned that there is so much going on across LA as a whole so now have a dedicated page to cover the wider area, so if you're looking for events and parties across the whole city and wider metropolitan area then check out our Los Angeles page too.
For a lot of people, LA in general and Hollywood in particular is just somewhere to see and be be seen, and if you're a visitor to town during the holiday period you're likely to want to be able to say you were there so one of our top recommendations for this unique location is to simply take a wander down the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard, head along to Hollywood & Vine to soak in the atmosphere and just enjoy the sights and sounds of being in tinseltown on one of the biggest nights of the year.
There is plenty to do in the area of course, and if it's you first time in Hollywood then we recommend you make at least a day of it (longer if possible) and check out the many iconic sights - Grauman's Chinese Theatre, the Kodak Theatre, Rodeo Drive, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Universal CityWalk and the Hollywood Bowl are all well worth a look.
One of the benefits of the place being so packed with hotels, bars and restaurants is that walk-in trade is still an option even on the busiest of nights, so you can take your chances on finding somewhere that looks lively and funky on the night itself, or if it's a clear, mild night, which it often tends to be in California at this time of year, then just enjoy the vibe of the street!
For club fans the LA Epic Club Crawl looks like a great night out - starting at Supperclub with a gourmet 3 course meal and cocktail party it then moves on to Hemmingways before finishing at The Roxbury. You get VIP treatment all night long, so no wasting precious party time waiting in lines - tickets are available here.
There are of course some pretty glamorous and spectacular parties to choose from in this part of town - one of the most popular is the Annual NYE Countdown Party at the W Hollywood Hotel, which includes access to the Living Room, Station Hollywood, Great Room and a complete VIP, exclusive access only to VIP tickets only, plus four hours of premium sponsored hosted bar, three deejays in the separate areas of the W, and a colossal midnight countdown
Another big party is the Billboard Hollywood New Year's Eve Party, hosted by Fergie, which operates in conjunction with the big New York event in Times Square, with live links and streaming typically allowing those in both venues to watch all of the live performances from both coasts. Headline acts and performers to follow.
For dining options then you're really spoiled for choice here too, although you can expect places on the main drag to be priced accordingly. Top recommended eateries include Katsuya Japanese, Loteria Grill, Palms Thai and Osteria Mozza. Check out all the top Hollywood restaurants here.
Places to watch live online - you can't do much better when is comes to people watching on new year's eve than this live streaming webcam view right on Hollywood Boulevard:
You can also check out a selection of views from the wider LA area, with a panoramic city view from the Hollywood sign included, here:
If you're planning on visiting Hollywood or the wider LA area over the New Year period, then early reservation is strongly recommended. You can search, check availability and book local hotels here.
