Should you find yourself in Tuscon for New Year, do not think because you're in the desert that you're not going to get into the festive spirit, as there is plenty going on over both the Christmas and new years eve holidays.

And while you are in Tuscon, get yourself out and about exploring in some of the national parks with some truly fantastic hiking trails to choose from, including the Sabino Canyon (although if you're not up for hiking, they do have a tram ride). Or get hiking up to Sentinel Peak for some outstanding views over Tuscon. There is also a great scenic drive up the Mt. Lemmon Scenic Byway.

For the star gazers out there, make sure to visit Kitt Peak National Observatory, they offer day and night tours, so for me it would have to be a night tour so I could explore the cosmos through one of their 24 telescopes!

Architecture lovers will have Mission San Xavier del Bac in their sights, which was built back in the 1700s and is still today considered to be a site of pilgrimage. If you can find some time, try and make it along to The Gaslight Theatre for some comedy theatre in this old western style venue, it's right next to a 50s style diner too, so great for everyone.

Winterhaven Festival of Lights

Throughout December you can catch the Winterhaven Festival of Lights which is sure to get you feeling festive. This does come to an end on Boxing Day however, so you will need to look elsewhere for things to do on new years eve itself.

Taco Bell New Year's Eve Downtown Bowl Bash

With live music throughout the evening, headlined by Warrant, a silent disco, food trucks and beer stations and best of all, fireworks at midnight! Head to this free event on 41E Congress from 6pm. More details here.
