Should you happen to be spending New Year in Albuquerque, don't
forget to get out and explore this New Mexico city. With a range of
cultural experiences including some amazing museums (New Mexico
Museum of Natural History and Science, Anderson-Abruzzo
International Balloon Museum and The National Museum of Nuclear
Science & History), theatres, lovely gardens and epic hiking trails
that are great for walking and biking.
Visit Albuquerque's Old Town with its museums, restaurants, adobe architecture, outdoor vendors selling their crafts and go see San Felipe de Neri Church, built in 1793. The Old Town is also a great place for Christmas Eve as the community gathers in the Old Town's main plaza to enjoy the luminaria displays, listen to carollers and feel festive!
Take a balloon ride with unforgettable views over the Rio Grande Valley as the sun rises or sets depending on whether or not you're a morning person or not.
For a little fun, go on a Ghost Tour to learn more about Albuquerque, hear stories of the paranormal variety and explore places you never through you'd see.
For some amazing views over Rio Grande Valley, take the amazing Sandia Peak Tramway, these cable cars travel for 3 miles from Albuquerque and the top of Sandia Peak, this is also great place to start your hikes.
There are some fantastic New Years Eve events in Albuquerque,
most of which are ticket based but if you want some family fun to
see in the New Year, then head to Civic Plaza where you can enjoy
entertainment, food stalls and ice skating. This gathering starts
around 8pm and goes on until after the countdown to Midnight.
Another fun event is at Nob Hill, where they have had the Chili Drop for the past couple of years (it's a 15ft long chilli that drops at midnight!) This gets busy so make sure to get there with time to spare.
The Balloon Museum holds an annual Manhattan on the Mesa, which has it's celebrations the same time as New York City. You dance the night away with live entertainment, great New York style food and watch the New York Ball Drop.
The casinos and hotels plan New Years Eve celebrations like masquerade balls, music concerts, DJ's and much more, so check with the venues for details.
The restaurants will fill up pretty quickly on New Years Eve so make your reservations in advance.
