Should you find yourself in Tuscon for New Year, do not think
because you're in the desert that you're not going to get into the
festive spirit. From 9th to 26th December you can catch the
Winterhaven Festival of Lights which is sure to get you feeling
festive, or you could pop along to the Tuscon Music Hall from 22nd - 24th December for The Nutcracker Ballet.
And while you are in Tuscon, get yourself out and about exploring in some of the national parks with some truly fantastic hiking trails to choose from, including the Sabino Canyon(although if you're not up for hiking, they do have a tram ride). Or get hiking up to Sentinel Peak for some outstanding views over Tuscon. There is also a great scenic drive up the Mt. Lemmon Scenic Byway.
If you are an aviator enthusiast (or you just like looking at planes) then a visit to Pima Air & Space Museum should be on your agenda. It is home to one of the world's largest aircraft collections, spread over 80 acres and includes Supersonic Spyplanes, MiGs and World War II planes.
For the star gazers out there, make sure to visit Kitt Peak National Observatory, they offer day and night tours, so for me it would have to be a night tour so I could explore the cosmos through one of their 24 telescopes!
Architecture lovers will have Mission San Xavier del Bac in their sights, which was built back in the 1700s and is still today considered to be a site of pilgrimage.
If you can find some time, try and make it along to The Gaslight Theatre for some comedy theatre in this old western style venue, it's right next to a 50s style diner too, so great for everyone.
Most of the hotels have lavish parties planned. This year, the
Westward Look Wyndham Grand Resort & Spa is hosting another New
Year's Eve Extravaganza, dinner, dancing and a champagne toast at
midnight and The Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa is holding a New
Year's Eve Variety Show with a murder mystery stage show followed by
shorter variety acts to keep you entertained up until the balloon
drop and champagne toast at midnight.
If you want to keep it kind of casual, then perhaps you may be more interested in some ten pin bowling. The city has a couple of bowling alleys that hold their own celebrations, try out Golden Pin Lanes or Vantage Bowling for some good old family fun!
For those who want to laugh all the way into 2018, check out Laff's Comedy Caffe for great entertainment on New Years Eve.
Restaurants will be booked very quickly for their New Years Eve dinners (remember to double check with venues as most will have set menus for the night) have a look at some of these for inspiration:
The Grill at Hacienda del Sol
Azul Restaurant and Lounge
Primo with Patio Dining
Arizona Inn - The Main Dining Room
There is a live streaming webcam on 4th Avenue if you want to peak at Tuscon:
