Santa Fe, as the state capital of the US state on New Mexico, takes on some responsibility for leading the new year's eve celebrations in this part of the world, and has really stepped up to the plate in recent years with the launch of the New Year's Eve Celebration on the Plaza - see below for full details.
Santa Fe probably isn't one of the first places that would spring to mind when planning where to spend your new year, but the clement weather at this time of year can be a big attraction for those who like their new year party (or in this part of the world Prospero Ano Nuevo!) to be outdoors without having to wrap up too warm, and there are plent yof things to do to mark the occasion in style.
The big party to welcome new year 2018 in Santa Fe is once again the New Year's Eve Celebration on the Plaza, which takes place on the Historic Santa Fe Plaza, starting from 9.30pm and continuing right through until after midnight.
The event includes a series of warming bonfires lining the plaza, really adding to the festive atmosphere of the Christmas lights. There will also be food trucks and hot chocolate, while entertainment will be provided in the form of live music. Lineup to follow.
There is also the promise of a surprise at midnight, which last year was the hosting of a Zia Symbol, the emblem of the state of New Mexico. There is also the suggestion that this year may also see some fireworks a midnight to add to the excitement of the display, potentially launched from the roof of the First National Bank. Keep an eye on all the very latest from this event here.
Elsewhere in Santa Fe you may well be looking form some new year dining options and the city has you well covered here with a wide selection of options, clearly with a Mexican and Latin influence. Top recommended eateries include Sazon, Geronimo, The Ranch House and Tabla de Los Santos. If you're looking for vegan options try Rawal's Raaga or Paper Dosa. See the full range of options, many with the option to book online, here.
You're in luck if trying to find a live stream from Santa Fe, especially with a view to checking out the party and fireworks on new year's eve as there is an excellent webcam located right on the Plaza:
Plenty of choice here, and prices tend to be quite reasonable. Popular choices incldue the Inn of the Governors, Inn on the Alameda and the Eldorado Hotel and Spa.
