Sarasota does things a bit different and on new years eve, and is best known for the Pineapple Drop at midnight, with the local fruit replacing the more traditional new year ball drop.

There are also a number of top hotels to choose from, with many venues hosting private parties and offering special new year packages to attract visitors.

Pineapple Drop

The big new year party in Sarasota is the annual Pineapple Drop Block Party. The dropping of the big glowing pineapple comes at midnight and takes place at the intersection of Lemon Avenue and Main Street in downtown.

The actual pineapple drop is the highlight of a party that includes a wide range of entertainment and attractions throughout the day, starting from 1pm and running right through until 1am on new years day morning.

There will be live music, with DJs and bands performing, carnival rides, games for the kids and of course plentiful food and drink, with special offers at local bars and restaurants.

New Year's Eve at Selby Gardens

Add a little sophistication to your New Year's Eve celebrations at Selby Gardens. Enjoy this black tie event with a private tour of Lights in Bloom, a 4-course dinner, entertainment by Sarasota Ballet and stunning views of the fireworks. Tickets available here

Sharky's On The Pier New Year's Eve Beach Bash
