Il Capodanno in Naples, known locally of course as Napoli, is most definitely a great place to spend New Years Eve! The whole city is illumiated by the many firework displays all going off to welcome the new year. It's quite the sight to behold and a memorable way to spend December 31st.

This vibrant Italian city is bustling and packed with things to see and do and in December it has a bustling festive period where you can enjoy some traditional Christmas experiences.

There is a wonderful street that's dedicated to Nativity scenes and the artists who make them, so head to Via San Gregorio Armeno and peruse the shops and buy some authentic Italian handicrafts.

Naples is a haven for the shopaholic too, from designer brands like Gucci and Louis Vuitton to more wallet friendly stores on Via Toledo. But one thing's for sure, do not miss the Umberto I Gallery, not necessarily for the shops, but the beautiful roof (I may or may not have taken about 50 photos of it!) and its stunning architecture.

If you're spending a little while in Naples, you may like the idea of some day trips, places like Pompeii and Vesuvius are an easy train ride away or perhaps a day trip to the island of Capri, there are many options which will suit everyone.

If you are a theatre lover and would like to have a night out then perhaps an evening at the opera would be more your style, the beautiful Teatro di San Carlo has events throughout December.

New Year Fireworks

Naples lights up for New Years Eve, with fireworks aplenty illuminating the skies as far as you can see, with merriment all round.

One of the main fireworks displays is usually from Castel dell'Ovo and lots of people tend to head towards the pedestrianised Lungomare for some wonderful views of the pyrotechnics and to join in the festivities

Another hotspot for New Years Eve is Piazza del Plebiscito where you can enjoy the free concert, live bands from Rock to Classical, it's a fantastic party atmosphere and a great way to welcome the new year.

Keep an eye on the restaurants and bars for special New Years Celebrations and get your tickets/reservations in advance.
