Feel the warm breeze on your face this New Year by venturing to
Mumbai (previously known as Bombay). This wonderful city offers you
a great choice of experiences from 5 star resort living to getting
in amongst the crowds and experiencing Indian culture.
Mumbai is a packed city with a staggering population of almost 12 million people, it can be a little overwhelming for some, but the sights on offer are worth the visit. From the magnificent Gateway of India to shopping on Colaba Causeway form some hidden gem (but don’t forget to barter a little, as is the custom).
Get some great views from a drive over the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, a 5.6km cable stayed bridge joining Bandra in the West of Mumbai to Worli in South Mumbai. Evening is usually a good time to see it all lit up in all its glory.
There are some truly spectacular roof top bars where you can sit and enjoy a drink or two whilst overlooking the view over Mumbai. Or go see a show at the Prithvi Theatre which also has a great cafe serving delicious food.
It’s perhaps a little unusual for New Years Eve, but the Essel
World Amusement Park is where 15,000 people go to bring in the new
year. This huge open air party, with top Bollywood DJs and carnival
theme, is where you can party the night away (until 7am) whilst
taking advantage of unlimited free rides in the park, that’s every
big kids dream! Tickets are less than $25 dollars, so it’s not going
to break the bank.
There’s also a great party at Imagica Theme Park, with midnight parade, street performers and fireworks alongside DJ Akhtar. Again, all the rides will be open so you can whizz through the air all the way through to 2017!
The Gateway of India is a great spot to gather on New Years Eve to watch some fireworks along with other locals and tourists. Or take a walk along Marine Drive, which is beautifully lit up to watch the fireworks, it gets busy here so there’s a real party vibe.
Mumbai also boasts a large selection of 5 star hotel resorts that have some great parties and if you’re feeling lively, head to one of the clubs that have special New Years Eve events with top DJs to take you through to the New Year.
Take your taste buds on a culinary journey while you are staying in Mumbai, try some of these restaurants:
The Peshwa Pavilion
Mirchi and Mime
Can’t currently find a good live webcam for Mumbai, but if that changes I will update asap.
