Welcome in the New Year in Geneva this year and while you’re at
it, make sure you tick off a few of these from your "To Do" list as
Geneva is packed with wonderful places to see, especially at this
time of year.
For grand architecture then you need to go visit the Cathedrale Saint-Pierre, particularly the Chapel of the Maccabees, in the Old Town. Whilst you’re in the old town, make the most of the wonderful shops and cafes and have a wander around.
If you love perusing museums a trip to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum could be right up your street, or try out the Museum of Art and History, Maison Tavel or Musee D'ethnographie de Geneve, that should keep you busy during your stay. Don’t forget to visit the United Nations Headquarters at the Palace of Nations.
If you’re a shop-a-holic, then perhaps I shouldn’t mention Rue du Rhône, with Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Chopard, Prada, Tiffany & Co and not forgetting Gucci, a luxury shoppers paradise! For something more festive head to the Christmas Market on Place de la Fusterie.
Oh and of course, you’re in Switzerland, it would be criminal to not go Chocolate tasting!
If you happen to be in Geneva on the 17th, you could go and see the world’s favourite ballet, The Nutcracker at the Theatre du Leman. Or feed the culture beast in you and visit Grand Theatre de Geneve for a rendition of La Boheme throughout December.
The main event this new year’s eve will be at Quai du Mont-Blanc,
with live music and a great spot for the fireworks from Grand Hotel
Kempinski. There will be food and drinks available from stands,
remember to get your bowl of Disco Soup! The music on the Rotunda
will be on from 7.30pm to 3am, a great party atmosphere.
If you want something a little low key then, grab your own bottle of bubbly and take a walk down to the lakeside or onto Pont du Mont Blanc to watch the fireworks.
There’s also Plainpalais for New Years Eve festivities, with amusement rides and candy floss to keep you smiling into the new year.
Or if you love to be on the water, you could opt for a New Years Eve Dinner Cruise and enjoy the fireworks from on the lake.
Many hotels and restaurants will be holding their own celebrations including some luxury gala dinners, perfect if you love to get dressed to the nines and dance the night away.
