Guide to new years eve in Brisbane, Queensland. Top NYE 2023-2024 parties, fireworks & hotels

Brisbane new years eve

Brisbane's New Years Eve celebrations set the sky alight with an impressive fireworks display over the Brisbane River, while the city also hosts a great range of top new years eve parties to take you into 2024. Remember it's summer, so al fresco dining, river cruises and enjoying the outdoors makes for a perfect evening.

If you are in this part of Queensland on new years eve then the state capital of Bribane has a number of top events, although for the younger crowd you might also like to consider heading down a little way south to the spectacular Gold Coast, and Surfers Paradise in particular - check out the full range of parties taking place in Surfers this year here.

New Years Eve Fireworks

The famous big new years eve fireworks show in Brisbane takes place on the banks of the eponymous Brisbane river, where the South Bank Fireworks represent a spectacular start to 2024.  Similar to other Australian cities, keeping in with being family friendly, there are actually 2 displays, an earlier show aimed at families with younger children that takes place at 8.30pm, followed by the main event at midnight.

The bars and restaurants along the river, especially the South Bank area, will be open and enticing you in with some great events and make for an ideal place to watch the fireworks, but it is a popular area so will be busy.

Finding the best vantage point to watch the new years eve fireworks displays is a competitive business in Brisbane, and there are several top recommended viewing spots to choose from - we advise you to check out:

River To Bay NYE Cruise

It stands to reason that given the location of the city, right along the banks of the river, taking a river cruise is a very popular new years eve option in Brisbane to get front row views of the amazing fireworks. There are several options to choose from, and we especially like the look the River To Bay NYE Cruise, with 2 offerings, one family friendly and one adult only.

Brisbane has no shortage of top hotels to choose from, but with this also being the height of summer demand will be very high so we recommend making an early decision and getting your place booked as soon as you can.

Popular recommend places to stay include Next Hotel, Rydges South Bank, Sofitel Brisbane Central and the Brisbane Marriott.
