Atlantic City continues to be a popular new year's eve destination despite suffering difficult times as a resort and holiday destination overall, with large crowds heading here over the festive season to enjoy that Las Vegas appeal without having to travel out into the desert.
If you do however prefer the real thing and want to welcome the new eyar on the Strip, then check out all the latest on this new year's events in Vegas on our Las Vegas page.
The hotels and casinos in AC promote a range of special offers to attract visitors during the Christmas and new year holiday season, and 2018 will be no exception with parties, balls and a range of midnight countdown events leading up to the main fireworks display over the Atlantic Ocean - in particular check out the offer and new year parties at The Borgata, Caesar's Atlantic City, Harrah's Resort, TEN Casino, Tropicana and Bally's.
There was much talk of a big, all new, new year's eve party in Atlantic City for new year's eve 2017, one that was set to rival the ball drop in Times Square, but sadly this did not come to fruition.
We'll be keeping an eye out to see if such grand plans are resurrected for the new year 2018 celebrations.
There will almost certainly still be fireworks though - to watch the midnight fireworks, most people head to the iconic Boardwalk, which runs along the beach for four miles to the city limit, where an additional one and a half miles extends on into Ventnor City. It is mainly casinos and hotels along the boardwalk, but there is also a decent range of shops, restaurants, and amusement arcades. Top attractions worth a visit include the Boardwalk Hall, House of Blues, and the Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum.
The big fireworks show is generally provided by Fireworks by Grucci and is a 10 minutes pyrotechnic display over the boardwalk.
There are usually big parties at the HQ Nightclub and The Pool at Harrah's. Among the other popular venues usually to be found hosting special new year's eve nights in AC are Ovation Hall at Revel, Mixx, Trump Taj Mahal, Borgata Music Box, the Chelsea Hotel, Tropicana Casino and Bader Field.
The Borgata usually has a wide range of of special events and parties throughout the festive and new year season - more details to follow.
If you don't mind travelling a little further afield while still spending new year on the New Jersey shore then there will this year be a First Night event just up the coast at Ocean City, more details are available here.
For your new year dining options, then Atlantic City has the expected eclectic selection to choose from. Among the most popular selections are the Hard Rock Cafe, Dock's Oyster House, McCormick & Schmick's and Bobby Flay Steak. The veggies among us should be looking to head for Punjab Palace or The Veggie Grille. See the full range of eateries online here.
